Shawnee Matinnia<

Shawnee joined Arkin Furrow Estate Law as an associate in 2026. Prior to joining the firm, she gained extensive experience in trust and estate litigation at a leading trust, estate, and capacity litigation firm, where she represented clients in disputes involving wills, powers of attorney, trusts, and capacity.

Shawnee is known for her clear, practical approach to navigating high‑conflict estates disputes. She prioritizes cutting through complexity, identifying strategic paths forward, and empowering clients to make informed decisions during emotionally challenging times. Drawing on her extensive litigation background, Shawnee provides a steady, strategic presence throughout even the most contentious estates matters.

Before dedicating her career exclusively to estate litigation, Shawnee gained experience in a diverse range of civil litigation matters, including product liability, insurance defence, professional negligence (including solicitors’ negligence), commercial litigation, class actions, and representing the province in complex civil proceedings. She leverages these unique experiences to craft strategic, practical, and creative solutions for her clients, particularly in high‑conflict or procedurally complex estates matters.

Shawnee obtained her law degree from the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law, in 2020. During her time in law school, she was actively involved in Windsor’s legal aid clinics and held several mentorship and leadership roles, including serving as a teaching assistant, an advisor in Career Services, and President of Windsor Law’s Women in the Law Chapter.

Prior to law school, Shawnee earned her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree, Summa Cum Laude, from McMaster University, where she specialized in Society, Culture, and Religion.

When she’s not working, Shawnee enjoys reading mysteries, going on long walks with her mini‑golden doodle Cleo, skiing, and exploring new restaurants and experiences in Toronto with friends.
